Remember that the Naval and Air Force academies require a recommendation from a U.S. congressman or senator, by the President, or some other elected official. If you can’t get one, you are not getting in unless you are the child of a Medal of Honor winner.

You don’t have to attend a service academy to become a fighter pilot. Finish college with the right major and sign up for Navy / Marine or Air Force and see if you can get into their officer candidate programs.

No guarantees either way– If you are not in the right place at the right time even though you got "the right stuff", you might end up being a multi-engine, rotary-wing or even RPV (i.e. Predator) pilot.

And there are other ways. ROTC if you don’t get in. I was a 90 day wonder, going through OTS.

The Academy gets more slots, but graduation there has nothing to do with graduation from SUPT or getting a fighter.

As the Rats say, "fighter pilot is an attitude not an AFSC; therefore not all pilots flying fighters are fighter pilots and not all fighter pilots fly fighters, some drive trucks."
