will i get in to college?

April 1st, 2010 | by admin |

guys, i’m getting nervous about college… i’m a junior and i will be taking the ACT for the first time next week (i’ve taken the PLAN test though)
i just don’t know if i have what it takes with the economy the way it is..

right now i have:
3.2 GPA
AP classes (history, engish 3, chem 2)
i’ll be taking AP clac next year i think
my projected ACT score (from the plan) was a 26-31
when i took the PSAT i was ranked in the top 78th percentile and it suggested i go into medicine as an adult (which i want to do)
i’m in band and i’ve done a bunch of honor bands and stuff, and i’m a section leader in the drumline
i’m getting my eagle scout
i do amateur boxing and have a 1-0 record
i work two jobs
and i volunteer at a hospital

i’m just really stressed right now… its almost 11:30 here in TN and i still have a few hours of homework to do. oh and i dont know if it will help, but i’m half mexican and i know minorities get more scholarship opportunities.

idk.. what kind of college do you think i can get in?
which would i have a better chance at?

one of the military academies?
vanderbilt university (TN)?
emory university (GA)?
the university of tennessee?
or middle tennessee state university?

to the best of your abilities.. which one?
well MTSU is my last straw choice.. i’d rater not go there or to UT

but if thats what it comes down to i guess..

well, there is no doubt you will get into college, you have a solid GPA, serious classes, and extesive afterschool/extracurriculars.

im afraid im not familiar with those colleges, but an easy way to find out (for any college) is to go to their website, and they should have general information about it. If it is not posted on the website, then ask for additional information to be mailed (it is always free, and will be more informative, the web sites tend to be a bit vauge about those things)

Here: http://www.vanderbilt.edu/Admissions/fastFacts.php#Academics

http://www.emory.edu/home/admission/undergraduate.html

http://admissions.utk.edu/undergraduate/
(For MTSU)
Guaranteed Admission
The majority of freshman applicants will be admitted in the Standard Admission category. In addition to completion of the required high school courses, applicants must present one of the following:
a minimum 3.0 GPA
a minimum composite ACT of 22 (SAT of 1020)
a minimum 2.7 GPA and minimum ACT of 19 (SAT of 900)

some college related web sites to join: princetonreveiw.com &
http://www.fastweb.com/ (that one is really good for scholorships!!)

Also, dont sweat the ACT, study, and remember, you can always retake it, and send in your best score to the college (you dont have to send in any previous scores) if this is an option for you, then its suggested not to put down colleges to send the scores to (they will have a section where you can pick like 3 colleges to send the scores to for free) in case you mess up. but im sure you will do fine.
