I am in boxing class the reason why is I am extremely skidish. I am a weightlifter i have been for 5 years. I

just started this boxing class and in 2 weeks i am supposed to spar with somebody. The instructors say that i am extremely powerful and learn quick ,but i have never fought any one in my life except for when a guy tried to pull something on me. I bench press 240 pounds ,but i am extremely skidish or shy. I am going to spar with a former middleweight champ. Everyone even the instructors say i’ll win but i have my doubts. She hasn’t worked out or practiced in a month but i know she knows how to fight. Is it normal to be this nervous before you box with someone and do you think i have a chance of wining?

You know what? I felt the same way a few years ago when I started boxing… I was pretty built, and strong due to swimming, but I was verry shy, and humble.. I only practiced at most a month, and was put up against a more experienced fighter… and, beleive me, once you’re in the ring, it comes naturally… keep your eyes on the opponent, head down, and hands up…. don’t be nervous, and try your best.. a little loss shouldn’t hold you back… just let it come to you… take your time…. and look at the glass as half full…. ok?

    chance of winning?
    NOT WITH THAT ATTITUDE.
You need to get out of this skiddish/shy barrier and just break through all that. You need to study your opponent. Especially if you say she is a former champ then im sure theres some tape or footage lying around somewhere that you can study. picture yourself in the ring with her while watching her fights. look at her strengths and that is what you should stay away from. look at her weaknesses or her bad habits of leaving a certain part of her body open. it may be hard to work inside but you need to stay inside with her to stick hard punches to the body. i guarantee that if you work her body hard enough she will lose her stamina/breathe and just slow down. then you can easily aim for the HEAD and go for the KO when she starts concentrating on protecting her body.

You say you’re strong… but trust me it wont mean a damn thing if you can catch your opponent. you still need to work on your SPEED/QUICKNESS and DEFENSE no matter what.

good luck and definitely KEEP YOUR HANDS UP. think positive but never over-confident.
