I am confused about XMAS in UK?
March 12th, 2010 | by admin |OK, I am very confused here. How do u really celebrate Xmas in UK. Is it Christmas Eve on 24th? And the next day is Xmas day or Boxing day? What do u do on 24th and what do u do on 25th and 26th. I am helping one of my students to do a project to school about UK’s holidays and celebrations, but I when i lived in UK I always used to go home for xmas so I haven’t experienced real british christmas and so I have no idea how do u celebrate it. Can anyone help ASAP, she’s coming in 30 minutes to the class.
LOL that’s strange and why do u call 26th boxing day if you don’t open any boxes (presents). Shouldn’t be the 25th called boxing day instead? Or Am I getting the phrase boxing day wrong? It’s probably just a wordplay. Hm so I was all those years confused. feel embarrased now
xmas eve is the 24th – send the children to bed early ready for santa.
xmas day is the 25th – get up early, open presents, then have a big family xmas dinner
boxing day is the 26th – lounge around the house all day or maybe go visit some family and friends, eat leftover turkey!
This is the general way most people spend xmas but it varies from house to house as every family has their own traditions and ways of doing things!

Xmas eve is the 24th, Xmas day is the 25th and Boxing day is the 26th.
A lot of people will tend to have a small celebration on Xmas eve, either by going out with friends, or having a small event at home… with families it tends to be a quieter occasion as it’s hard work getting small children off to bed when they’re so excited.
Xmas day will start off with opening of presents and at some point a large Xmas dinner will follow, this can be at any time during the day and is a matter of personal preference. A lot of family will usually attend this meal, those from further afield will tend to stay over/locally. The day might end with some family based games along with drinks.. Charades etc.
Boxing day has always been a bit of a do-what-you-like day for me… quite a few people will make a habbit of going to watch the football on that day, whilst others will stay at home and watch films on TV. It’s very much a chilled out day of rest and relaxation… food tends to be buffet style/leftovers.

If you are young the 24th is normal to go out to pubs and discos and party with like friends. 25 th you would be at home with family to eat lots of turkey , drink s and fall asleep in front of the tv. 26th you could go to the pub and meet friends, a football game, or just have a walk in the area. It,s really about spending time with the family in that period, and of course if you are a kiddie and believe in father christmas then it,s a magic time in your life for a few years.
