Postage from the UK…i need help..?

Hey , i need to post some Perfume to India but don’t know if i should just put a stamp on it and put it in a medium sized enveloped and post it through the post box…

Or should i go to the post office and through them post it?

I only need the one 1st class stamp on it right? Nothing else?

Also how long do you think it would take from the UK [using Royal Mail] to get to India.

i put in 2kgs to india and the cheapest is £17!!!!!

You are going to have to pack and post the perfume properly as detailed below:-

I would wrap the bottle in bubble wrap and then box it. Adding packing to ensure a snug fit.

You will need to write your name and address on the back of the box as the Sender.
A CN22 Customs Clearance form will also have to be completed and affixed to the box.

The name of the person you are sending it to will have to be written on the front.

To ensure that it actually arrives in India it should be sent using the Royal Mail International Sign For service. Air Sure would be better but is of course more expensive. Both of these will insure the item against loss.

As the items requires clearance by Customs it will be two to four weeks before it is delivered.

You will have to go to a Post Office to get Air Mail stickers, otherwise it will take months to get there (as it will go by surface) and it is likely to be much more expensive than the price of 1 first class stamp. I think it will take about a week to get there and probably cost about £3-5 in postage.

take it to the post office because postage is calculated on weight and size of the parcel.

They will weigh it and give you the options available like surface mail or airmail, signed for delivery etc.

If you just stick a stamp on it , it will not get very far.

I would go to the post office as they can make exactly sure that you’ve got the right amount of stamps on etc and that it will reach the correct destination.

1 first class stamp is most definitely not enough, you need to check first if you can send perfume to India, because if it’s not allowed it will be confiscated by the Indian customs.

You’ll need to complete a customs declarations too so you will need to go to the post office

It will take more then a first class stamp to get a bottle of perfume to India, if you decide to stick it in an envelope & put a first class stamp on it, it will either never get there because there isn’t enough postage on it or if you put your address on it as the return address it will be sent back to you by Royal Mail because of insufficient postage.

Go to the post office, they’ll weigh your parcel, tell you what your options are for paying & how long it will take to get there

If you use this part of the Royal Mail website it can give you an idea of how much it might cost & what your options are

A first class stamp is 41p, to send a letter to Ireland costs me 88p, a parcel to India is going to take a lot more then a 1st class stamp to get there

A 1st class stamp is definitely not enough to send it abroad. International Mail needs a lot more than domestic mail. You’ll also need a CN22 Customs declaration, which you can print online, or get at the post office.

Go to the post office, have it weighed and have them send it.

I would estimate between £3-£10 for average parcels.

Airmail should take 4-7 days, and will be expensive
Surface mail should take 2-6 weeks, but will be cheap.

Also, be aware that there are many restrictions on the passage of perfume through the mail. I believe it must be non-flammable and with less than 7% alcohol, and you must be able to certify this. This is for tax reasons in India, but also to protect the other mail. Double check at the Post Office.

Wrap it carefully (or use a Jiffy bag) and take it to the Post Office.

you should go to the post office as there are different prices for size and weight and then it will prob be a bit extra as you are posting to outside the EU
i think that it should take about a week -but i cannot be certain – they should be able to tell you at the post office
