not if you are keen to learn!..around 19 you start to learn less easily human nature but if you feel the need then you can just try not to catch up too quickly!..you will need to learn the basics thoroughly and try to stay out of the ring for at least 3/4 months while you develope competence..habit becomes nature..correct stance,punch/move correctly, slip and counter learn to do these proficiently and you will catch up sooner..but remember you are playing catch up so learn WELL
References :
I started in my 20s. I was overweight and out of shape. Now I'm fit and I compete. There is a guy in my gym that used to box. He was 65 and could whip our butts! Age has nothing to do with it. If you want to, go for it!
References :
www.sprucegroveboxingclub.com

It's never too late to learn how to defend yourself, especially when the medium is boxing. Boxing offers so much more than just self defense as it includes intense physical fitness as well as building self confidence.

That being said, many people have found it hard to excel at the upper most reaches of the sport when they started later in life, but there have been success stories. Nate Campbell didn't start boxing seriously until he was in mid twenties and look where he is now? Undisputed lightweight champion.

Another good discipline to give a try is jujitsu and or muay thai. Both will succeed in teaching you self defense and both will succeed in keeping you in top physical shape.

I recommend all three if you have the time and resources.
