Is it bad to excercise when your muscles are already sore?

I go to a boxing training class which includes cardio and other exercises like squats, push ups, etc all mixed into one class. My upper back muscles hurt but the rest of my body is ok. I know that if I go tonight I can’t avoid doing the push ups.

If I am not looking for bulky muscles, but rather toned muscles, I going a bad idea?

well basically when muscles are sore its because, the muscle "ripped/tore" bc of the work it was put through, so it is recomended that you rest that area you worked on, so it (muscles) can have time to heal.

So jsut take a day break, where you dont do that stuff

Push-ups do not work your upper back, they work your chest and triceps.

I wish women would stop thinking they are going to get bulky muscles from working out. Unless you are so genetically gifted or taking enhancements to help you get bigger….YOU WON’T GET BULKY! The only reason why you think you look bulky is because your muscles may be hiding under a layer of fat…lose the fat, you look muscular/toned.

The reason why you are sore is because of lactic acid build up, so stretch before you work out and just go for it.

Weight lifting is good for women later in life…builds bone density and helps prevent osteoporosis

Hi O, if that soreness is only an ache in the muscles then you are fine to workout. If however it is pain in a joint or a sharp pain then it would be best to wait a few days. When you work out more than usual the body exceeds its capacity and tries to build itself to be able to better cope next time, the aches are part of that. It pretty much means what you are doing is improving your body.
