I’m a pretty a small dude and weigh 140 lbs. Wanted to get some amateur matches in while I can, and was thinking "no problem I can cut weight to 135 for lightweight" since I’ve lost 3 lbs of water before just with cardio workouts. My coach then told me I had to fight at 132 or 141 since amateur weight classes are different from professional boxing. For 8 lbs, is it even possible for me to lose this in water weight or will I have to start dieting and losing fat/muscle?

start dieting. that’s way too much to lose in water weight
if you lost that much in water you would never be able to properly rehydrate in the hours before the fight. You just gotta suck it up and diet
Or you can go in at 141 and fight a guy who is bigger AND has more discipline than you (cause he can diet)
what you need to do is cut weight and do it properly. weeks before the fight start dieting, no eating after 6pm being a big part of this. I ate a lot of bread, plain, fruit, and for protein i would eat a can of tuna after i flushed all the salt out of it.

lots of roadwork too! this will help you lose the weight plus when it comes to a match between green fighters the better conditioned fighter usually wins. Worst case scenario it’ll make losing suck less

You wanna aim to have your weight down to 132 a week or so before the fight because this way you can up your calorie intake. when you’re cutting weight you have to burn more calories than you consume but once you reach your weight you can up your calorie intake to match what u burn in a day.

this will have you at the proper weight without any last minute drastic weight cutting measures plus it ensures you’ll be energetic and ready come the fight

oh and don’t use the professionals as a guide line. the pros weigh in about 30 hours before a fight while an amateur is more like 3 hours before a fight. comparing the 2 is ignorant

I’m a very fickle person. I have always loved the sport of boxing and am starting boxing classes soon to hopefully start amateur boxing. Problem is it would kill me inside to loose a fight. I’ve been in a few fights when i was a kid..won some lost some. The ones I lost bothered me to no end. I felt like I couldn’t face anyone ever again due to the fact I was defeated. Is this the mind set of most fighters? And a weird thing is if its for sport I would gladly compete in a boxing match..on the other hand I would be terrified to get into another street fight just because I would be afraid to loose. I know but this is a bunch of mumbooo jumbooo but anyone who can relate advice is helpful.

Nobody likes to lose. It’d b a huge bruise to the ego but fighters fight so they suck it up n get bak to the grind

Female have the exact same weight classes as the male even in the juniors….

I used to train when i was a child a little bit but I never sparred or competed. However I quit boxing for 8 years, but now I am 23 years old and I want to compete in amateur boxing. I am in good condition and I know how to properly jab and other punches, so im not a beginner.
Theres a gym im looking at, but they have boxing classes for beginners and boxing fit classes along with professional fighters and amateur fighters training seperately. I am not a beginner, I know how to punch, block, move. I only have never sparred or competed
How will I get into amateur boxing in this situation. I dont want to join a class where they teach jab, jab, jab. I already know this. Do I just walk in and ask to spar someone and then ask them to let me compete after 2 months sparring?

go to the gym and look for trainer. then he will help you go to amateur boxing comitte.

Current Weight: 205lbs.( Little loose around the mid section but tight in the arms shoulders ect)
Age: 20

Devote yourself to training (get a trainer) both for:

1. proper technique, and,

2. maximum stamina.

Doing so will bring your body to your best boxing weight.

now if your trainer picks your opponents then you may fight a shorter or taller guy b/c your trainer thinks you need practice against whichever size..

I have a hurt hand so I’m limited ..well its my wrist so keep that in mind and also remember I am trying to drop weight and I have boxing class’s and am only aiming to be an amateur ..for now anyway..

I sleep from 11-12pm depending on when I fall asleep ( insomnia) wake up at 6:30 am-7:00 am everyday

- I do 50 cruches 50 jumping jacks 5 mins of running in place with my hands up even running while shadow boxing .. 25 dips twice between crunches and jumping jacks I do this at the very least three times a day , along with alot of shadow boxing and stance manuevering ( balancing myself in my stance making actual fight movements at full speed like dipping , dodging , blocking , countering, power punching basically an imaginary fight ) , leg lifts I do while do crunches then I do normal crunches then I do reg leg lifts

-also do lunges? or something where you dip down from a standing position then jump up land do it again 25 times

I also do this pilates? where your in a push up position except on your forearms instead of hands (my wrist..) , I do as much walking as I can but I am sort of on lockdown ( probation likes to know where I am )

- I eat oatmeal with green tea ( I have green tea twice a day with chamomile tea at night) or cereal like honey nut cheerios every morning

- then eat a fruit about 2 hours later with a slimfast 321 plan shake

- I eat lunch 3 hours later usually a sandwhich like turkey on wheat bread with lettuce , or a hamburger with lots of veggies ( garlic , peppers , onions , lettuce ) no butter or toppings

- then I have some carrots 3 hours later and maybe a banana later on if we have bananas

- dinner usually lots of veggies with chicken small amount of pasta and slim fast

I don’t eat over 2,000 calories a day I would even estimate around 1,400-1,600 depending on the dinner ( I don’t get to choose …)

on top of all that I drink about a gallon of water a day , take a multivitamin every other day , oxy pro elite 2 pills a day , adderall xr in the am ( prescribed but helps burn off excess water ..) , I drink a whey protein shake when I get a great workout in ( when my hands healed) ,

also take modern bcaas , l-carnitine 1500 mgs in the am , my water is vitamin b enhanced , omega 3 fish oil and CLA 2 pills twice a day with biggest meal , recreate ( another diet pill ) and sometimes powerfull and pink magic ( days i get to my class’s/gym ..usually at least twice a week for over an hour)

Oh add to that I do a leg press around 210 lbs 35 reps stop then 35 then stop I have no idea how many times but for an hour long with almost no breaks ( very short for water/bathroom )

I also sit around in 71 degrees heat ( work out in it as well ) with a sweatshirt and pants at least (plus shirt and under garments) and a winter hat to increase sweating .. and even when sitting I do movements with my legs , when standing I’m on my toes bouncing , when laying I do leg lifts , ab work outs so on

- forgot to mention I also stretch pretty much every which way I can and I am 5’9" at 168-173 (weight keeps bouncing)

- now is this a decent workout and when I get my hand back to full health I will have heavy bag , speed bag , punching mits learning combos , push ups , barbell , free weights you get the idea ..

so really 2 questions , how does my workout and diet hold up for now and how about later on with my hand back?

sorry that is so long but is this decent and am I on the right track at least ?
to thomas? thanks and great push up work out I will def do that I cannot wait to have my hand back lol

as far as the whey protein and the 1s you suggested I actually have whey iso with all the aminos and my modern bcaas by usp labs really helps keep muscles ( I have bearly lost anything in my arms and when I 1st hurt my hand I had to stop working my arm out all together even hard to bounce..) I left out a few details on the supplements I take b/c this was so long already and alot of ppl not only frown on supplements or doubt them but some don’t care to hear about them so I left it as basic as possible but thanks for the suggestion and explanation ..

are you a power puncher? thanks alot for the advice I love hearing from actual boxers .. I’m gonna wait and see if some more answers come in though but if you have any tips to help me out email them or edit your answer ( I take boxing really serious and love it ) thnx again

I would love more leg and neck work outs what else is there though without a hand no treadmill or bike or stationary bike or jump rope ! ( that 1 sucks so I do pretend 1s ) neck and shoulder rolls i always do for a stretch as well but without a hand working the upper body is hard really ..

as for legs I’m sure there are work outs I don’t do but I do use 3 machines leg press is just my favorite I also do the 2 where you bend your legs either in or out to move the weights..

In amateur you shouldn’t worry about dieting to much. But I like to call what your doing "Eating healthy". While you eat some oatmeal drink a protein shake. Buy casein protein powder and way iso. One is fast acting the other is long lasting. It helps keep your muscle where it is and makes it a little bit easier for muscle building. Another thing I would suggest is squat jumps you go down into a squat then you power up and jump off the ground. Here I’ll give you a push up workout that I do. I realize your wrist is hurt but once it heals try it.
25 normal push ups (biceps, depending on how you do ‘normal’)
25 tight arm push ups (Bring elbows against ribcage and keep the arms tight to your body, triceps)
25 wide arm push ups (Spread your arms wide for this chest workout)
25 diamond chest push ups (make a diamond shape with your hands and place it directly under your chest, then push up, triceps)
15 jump and clap plyo push ups (Push up in normal position then clap your hands)
15 jumping plyo ppush ups (pushup and you want your whole body to leave the ground even your feet)
10 static push ups (Down , then up for 20 seconds then back down then up for another 20 seconds, repeat 10 times)
If you can do that exactly at first just start with: 15,15,15,15,10,10,5
By the way your workout is very good.

My goal is to fight in amateur boxing and of course be good at it. I have two choices either Freddy Roach’s Wild Card BC or John Mcarthy’s Ultimate Training gym. At John Mcarthy’s gym I will attend 3 group classes a week and use the other days to just train on my own (bags, shadow, footwork, weightlifting, cardio). Unforunately im on a budget and if I attend Wild Card boxing since they only offer private training I will be able to attend private training 1 and sometimes 2 times a week and the other days i will be training on my own (bags, shadow, footwork, weightlifting, cardio).

Im looking for some credible advice… which gym should i attend?

3 classes a week and 2 self training or 1 private training and 4 self training days???

sparring is not an issue both gyms offer different days to spar.

WildCard hands down.

Sorry I don’t see any in Milford but hopefully some of those others ones are near you. If you can’t get a ride look into public transportation. Good Luck!
