I just signed up for boxing/kick boxing classes and I don’t want to buy my gloves from the facility where I’m taking classes mainly because they are really expensive. I found a pair of gloves that I really like and they come in 8 oz, 12 oz & 14 oz but I’m not sure which one will work. I’m a female and I guess I have medium size hands but with the wraps included I’m thinking I should get the 14 oz gloves. Which ones do they normally sell at these places?
You need to check with your coach to find out which ones fit you best so
you can start out right in your boxing classes.
Well if your a beginner you should start off of the lightest ones.
If you start off with heavy ones you will get tired faster.
But it is also up to you and how you feel with the gloves on.
I adjust you start off with the 8 oz and when you get more comfortable adjusted to the training you could get heavier ones.
Have Fun!

Kristle: IMO, If you’re just learning boxing and it’s more or less a learning process of stance, hitting the bags, etc. Go with the 12 oz. If they intend to put you in a ring, with headgear, mouthpiece of course and have you actually ingaging in contact, then go with the 14′s. Good luck.

don’t get the 14 oz it might just be a bit heavy for you 12 oz is better. because if you hit the heavy bag with 8 oz gloves u might hurt your hands. the 14 oz will be heavy. it give you bad habits like droping your hands.

Since you are doing a fitness class I would recommend the 8oz gloves, they are lighter and your hands will fly and making punching and combinations more fun. Usually 14oz and 16oz gloves are used in sparring because they have added protection that makes the sparring easier on the hands and body. Most people use 12oz for bagwork, but some use 10oz as well. I have a pair of 10oz and I’m a 165lb male who’s been boxing for years. I would say you’ll have more fun with 8oz.
